REASON PREVAILS OVER RHETORIC

ROCKY COMFORT REJECTS INCORPORATION

On Saturday, June 16, proponents Ron Zucca and Chris Hay convened their last in a series of meetings held at the Rocky Comfort Community Center intended to generate support for the incorporation of that portion of unincorporated McDonald County commonly known as Rocky Comfort. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm with over 30 inhabitants of the area present, increasing to standing room only attendance as the meeting progressed.

Proponents Zucca and Hay alternately reported on actions they had taken since the April 21 meeting. Zucca concluded his remarks by stating, “I don’t know whether it’s worth being a town proper.”

Area property owners again discussed various aspects of the proposal expressing their concerns both pro and con. Nate Green, long time Rocky resident delivered a cogent summary of the arguments previously advanced, closing with a reminder that we “Love thy neighbor,” not “Fine thy neighbor,” building upon Leviticus 19:18.

Sensing that further discussion was unnecessary, area property owner David Sharp suggested that a vote on incorporation should be taken, Zucca agreed. Sharp then moved that further discussion of the incorporation of Rocky Comfort be postponed indefinitely. Jerry Payne seconded the motion. There was one voice vote for incorporation. Calling for a show of hands, virtually all in attendance opposed incorporation. The meeting immediately adjourned sine die at approximately 7:30 pm.
